Outragously Irresponsible Claim by Weak-Minded Theist Group

Freedom of Speech Aside, This Level of Deception Should be Illegal

Quiet a stunning statement, huh? A child will kill you for candy? That candy better surpass the widely accepted "Sour Punch Straws Threshold" in order to be worth murder. All jokes aside, this is another example of Christians making a claim that can in no way be backed up. Indeed, a quick search of the internets will reveal that Sweden's homicide rate per 100,000 people is half of what it is in the United States. That is right, half, you are twice as likely to be murdered in a nation of evangelical Christians as you are in secular Sweden. The murder of George Tiller this weekend (in church, by a fundamentalist) is a perfect example. This billboard, by Answers in Genesis, is basically an outright lie. It's the old, "atheists are evil" argument, that has been shown to be false several times over. These people are just trying and garner support (donations). One has to consider they are being deceptful on purpose, as I don't believe that everyone who had anything to with this didn't research this claim. A favorite tactic of the Right is to challenge accepted science; statistics, and try to paint it as some sort of debate or controversy when indeed it is not. But, this is different. This can't be portrayed in that light. It's a fact, 5.8 people per 100,000 will be murdered in the United States this year, and that number is only 2.6 in Sweden. Now, I realize the whole appeal of theism is you get to believe and say anything you want about reality, but this crosses the line.

Great Post! More proof Christians lack any morals.

Thanks! The hypocrisy is overwhelming. The lengths theists will go to justify their beliefs and actions is truly sickening.

I hate to say this New Atheist...but I think you've been had. I think this is probably a photoshopping of this billboard. I think the text in the version you posted is actually a way of making fun of the original.

You'll note, however, that the original is just as bad if not worse.

Also, the Atheist Ethicist posted about the accompanying TV spot here.

Basically, the gist of the real version is a lot more concise and infuriating. It's implying that this kid with the gun doesn't believe in Yahweh and is going to kill you, apparently just because he doesn't believe in Yahweh.

The video's message is rather creepy, and doesn't seem at all in line with the AiG site and the bulletin boards, which ask "If God doesn't matter to him, do you?"

I still think that Swedes will kill you for candy, though. Damned Swedes.

"They're not Swedes, Mac...they're Norwegian." ;)

Looks like this is a photoshopped manipulation.

Compare the two links, side by side. The power lines and background are identical.
